Ordinary People is an exceptional movie that deals with a family by tension and tragedy falls apart. Donald Sutherland and Mary Tyler Moore are the married couple from the upper middle class, whose normal life irrevocably turned upside down when their oldest son is put in a boat accident killed. Timothy Hutton is the younger son who struggles with suicidal tendencies and feelings of guilt caused by the drowning death of his brother. Judd Hirsh is the sympathetic psychiatrist who tries to keep him alive. Mary Tyler Moore plays in masterly fashion the role of very distant mother.
